Namibia
is named after the Namib desert.
This desert, lying along the south western coast of Africa, is 1 530 km long
and 50 to 140 km wide. It is the oldest desert in the world!
This spectacular desert is just one of many attractions Namibia has to offer:
Etosha national park is one of the best gameparks in Africa. Especially during
the dry season the concentration of game at the waterholes must be seen to be
believed.
Lion, rhino, elephant, giraffe, zebra, ostrich, all african game is present,
acting out their lives close around you.
Windhoek, the capital city, like most Namibian towns and cities, is neat and
modern with a German flavour, left over from colonial times.
The Fish River canyon is the second largest canyon in the world.
The highest sand dunes can be climbed at Sossusvlei.
200 000 seals wait for you at Cape Cross, the largest colony in the southern
hemisphere.
The cool desert nights can be spent in one of the many hot springs.
The salt flats at Walvis Bay are pink with flamingoes. Penguins and seals can
be seen.
Ghost towns from the diamond rushes wait to be explored.
Unique plants and insects can be found only here.
